Position Summary:
We’re looking for an experienced, sharp, and thoughtful financial leader to join our team as our  part-time CFO , working approximately 25 hours per week.  Reporting to the Executive Director, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will be a strategic partner to the entire leadership team with responsibility for all aspects of the the financial planning and management for the organization. This individual will be responsible for the nonprofit’s fiscal integrity, long-term financial planning, budgeting, budget management, compliance, audits, and reporting.

Location: Remote (with occasional travel)
Status: Part-time .625 FTE (25 hours per week), exempt
Salary Range: $85,000 - $90,000, commensurate with experience
Reports To: Executive Director

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support and direct the organization’s accounting and financial management functions, to ensure accurate and timely financial information.
  • Design, develop and maintain systems to provide management information to the President, Executive Director, and Executive Team.
  • Manage expense reconciliation and allocation.
  • Collaborate with the PEO to oversee payroll and year end employee reporting.
  • Develop and deliver financial presentations to the Board and leadership team
  • Serve as staff liaison to the Board Finance Committee.
  • Analyze and predict cash flow and ensure optimization of cash usage.
  • Ensure adequate reserves are maintained for Operations.
  • Lead the annual budget process and reforecasting efforts.
  • Lead and manage financial strategy, forecasting, and reporting.
  • Oversee budgeting, accounting, cash flow, and financial audits.
  • Ensure compliance with nonprofit financial regulations and grant requirements.
  • Develop internal controls and ensure transparency across all fiscal operations.
  • Supervise accounting/bookkeeping for staff and vendors.
  • Advise the President, Executive Director, and program leaders on financial implications of programmatic decisions.

  • Extensive financial management experience in day-to-day operations and leadership roles
  • Knowledge of GAAP
  • Understanding of and experience with non-profit financial reporting, audit, and compliance requirements
  • Able to organize and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership techniques, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Effective in decision making and solution-finding with complex problems and diverse stakeholder needs.
  • Exhibits mindfulness and discernment when holding challenging conversations and making difficult decisions.
  • Looks for opportunities to create new partnerships and allows others to leverage existing partnerships.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
  • CPA, MBA, or relevant certification preferred.
  • At least 7 years of financial management experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector.
  • Knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles, fund accounting, and federal grants (e.g., Uniform Guidance).
  • Experience with QuickBooks, Excel, and financial software platforms.
  • Strong strategic, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Passion for social justice and human dignity.
