Essential Functions

  • Under general direction, in accordance with established standards procedures and policies, plans and provides inservice training for professional and sub-professional nursing service staff.
  • Monitors the spread of infectious and communicable diseases.
  • Plans and coordinates all nursing care on a designated unit and shift; provides professional nursing care to residents using assessment skills and clinical knowledge.
  • Provides nursing consultation to other nursing staff regarding educational and informational tools to assist in providing and improving patient care.
  • Assists with the orientation of new nursing staff and provides post-classroom instruction in applying various resident care procedures and techniques.
  • Assists with coordinating facility resident and staff immunization program and instructs nursing staff on procedures to follow in implementing the facility's immunization program.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires (a) graduation from an approved nursing education program resulting in an associate degree or diploma degree in Nursing and two (2) years of progressively responsible professional nursing experience; OR (b) a bachelor's degree in nursing and one (1) year of professional nursing experience: OR (c) a master's degree in nursing.
  • Requires licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of experience in visual, auditory, physical, and comprehensive ability to instruct and demonstrate clinical nursing techniques and document information.
  • Two (2) years of experience evaluating patient conditions and behavior and prepare accurate, detailed reports
  • Extensive knowledge regarding State and Federal policies, procedures, regulations, and guidelines
  • Extensive knowledge of the methods and techniques utilized in developing educational programs.
  • Extensive knowledge of pharmacology of commonly prescribed medicines and drugs and their therapeutic and possible adverse reactions.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires the ability to have a Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Instructor Certification or attainment within three (3) months of employment.
  • Requires ability pass a background check.
  • Requires ability meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance.
  • Requires ability pass a drug screen and pre-employment physical.
  • Requires ability utilize office equipment, including p personal computers.
  • Requires ability attend seminars, conferences, and trainings to stay current on methods, tools, ideologies, or other industry related topics relevant to the job duties.
  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of job duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
  • This position is considered medium work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(c)). Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This may require the ability to work evenings and weekends.
