Golf Course Superintendent
Golf course in Cocoa Beach, Florida is looking for a Golf Course Superintendent.
Position Overview:
Under general supervision performs supervisory and administrative work directing grounds maintenance work at the City golf course. Work involves inspecting the golf course to determine maintenance, irrigation, mowing, fertilizer, pesticides and/or irrigation needs. Responsible for supervising a staff of maintenance personnel, ensuring adherence to policies, procedures and standards; assists and advises subordinates, as necessary, resolving problems as non-routine situations arise including hiring, training, assigning, scheduling, granting leave, appraising and disciplining, etc. Responsible for developing and administering maintenance program budgets, including oversight of expenditures for supplies and equipment. Reports to the Golf Course Manager.
Essential job functions:
• Plans, assigns, directs and supervises activities of golf course maintenance staff, ensuring adherence to policies, procedures and standards; assists and advises subordinates, as necessary, resolving problems as non-routine situations arise.
• Administers or makes recommendations for routine personnel matters affecting subordinates, including hiring, training, assigning, scheduling, granting leave, appraising and disciplining, etc., submitting such records and reports as required.
• Develops and implements maintenance schedules and standards, and inspects golf course to determine specific needs for irrigation, mowing, fertilizer, pesticides, etc.
• Develops operating and capital outlay budget proposals for golf course maintenance program, and administers funds provided; approves or prepares purchase requests for appropriate expenditures, and ensures maintenance of proper accounting records.
Additional job functions:
• Assumes duties of maintenance staff, as necessary, including, but not limited to, applying fertilizers and pesticides to golf course turf, operating a variety of specialized lawn and turf mowers, sighting and cutting pin placements on greens, identifying areas available or restricted from golf cart traffic, and maintaining and repairing equipment, mowers and vehicles.
• Performs other related work as required.
Requirements:
Graduation from high school and 6 to 9 years of experience in golf course maintenance work, including supervisory experience; or any combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Must have experience with Paspalum grass on putting surfaces.
Experience with Toro Lynx irrigation systems preferred, as well as experience on a multi-hole golf course.
Continuing Turf Maintenance Education: Stays up-to-date on latest turf maintenance and pesticide courses.
Continues education of latest practices and standards.
Having a Restricted Use Pesticide (RUP) license issued by the State of Florida Department of Agriculture to apply pesticides.
Compensation:
$51,575.46 per year.
